Auburn Historical Society

October marks the 2nd anniversary of the creation of the Auburn Historical Society.

The Auburn Historical Society had over two dozen lifetime members as well as over
sixty different people who have attended one or more of the monthly meetings.

The meetings are conducted in the Auburn Borough Building and are scheduled for
7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month unless otherwise posted.

The meetings usually involve conducting AAHS business, presenting and examining
historical memorabilia pertaining to the Auburn area, an educational presentation or
guest speaker, socializing with other members and refreshments.

Everyone is welcome to attend free of charge. The primary purpose of the AAHS
is reflected in their motto "Preserving the Past for Future Generations to Treasure".

Your support of the AAHS is greatly appreciated. The AAHS would like to express its
appreciation to Donna Spotts. Donna fulfilled the duties of the AAHS secretary but
regrettably decided to step down from the position for personal reasons. Donna's
dedication to her responsibilities and her outstanding work results will be greatly

missed.

Auburn Veterans of Foreign Wars & The Ladies Auxiliary

Auburn Pennsylvania VFW

The Auburn VFW and Ladies Auxiliary are in need of new active members.

This volunteer organization supports veterans, veterans hospitals, lobbyists
promoting veterans' benefits, homes for veterans' children
, etc.

Our veterans and their families are in dire need of our support right now. They are
the ones that suffer every time an auxiliary or post disbands. The legislators see the
dwindling numbers of veterans organizations and their auxiliaries and then ignore the
needs of veterans
due to lack of support from veterans organizations.

To be eligible in the VFW, you must be an active duty or an honorably discharged veteran
(male or female) who was/is deployed to a combat zone. Reserve and National Guard are
also eligible.

VFW membership is $18.00 per year. To get an application, stop in at the Auburn VFW at
3rd & Pine Streets or call the post at 754-7593, and we will mail an application to you.

You can also apply online and get more info at www.vfw.org.

To be eligible in the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, you must be the grandmother, mother, wife,
widow, daughter, granddaughter, or sister (including step and foster relatives) of an eligible
veteran. The dues in our auxiliary are $11.00 per year.

For an application, contact Betty Renninger at 754-7609 or apply online and get more information
about the auxiliary at www.ladiesauxvfw.org.

If you are eligible, what easier way to support our veterans!

Most VFW Posts throughout the USA will honor another Post's Active (Not Social) members and

welcome you.

Auburn Boy Scout Troop 117

The Boy Scouts would like to thank everyone who purchased chicken bbq tickets.
The event was a great success. All monies raised at the chicken bbq are being used
to fund the dredging of the scout dam at Camp Fort Lebanon so it is a viable pond
once again.

Scouting's annual good turn is also approaching - Scouting For Food.

This year the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will canvas the town for non-perishable food
donations on Saturday, November 14th, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Each year the need seems to become greater, and we certainly would like to thank the
town for their generosity in helping the scouts with this service project.

All donations go to the local food pantry in Orwigsburg for any local resident in need.
